Practices / Games Format
Rep teams typically practice 2–3 times per week. League games are scheduled by Baseball Alberta and are usually played on weekends. In a typical season, teams can expect approximately 7–8 weekends of league play, including tiering and provincial rounds. Baseball Alberta makes efforts to reduce travel or rotate hosting responsibilities between teams. Exact dates and formats may vary each year; please refer to the Baseball Alberta Calendar for full details.
Commitment
Participation on a rep team implies additional commitments on behalf of the player's and the parents. The major commitments are time, travel and financial which also includes fund raising initiatives. Rep teams typically utilize weekdays for practices (2 to 3 per week), exhibition games, etc. and weekends for games and tournaments based on schedule and travel requirements as determined by Baseball Alberta. Some games are scheduled during the week, depending on the distance teams must travel. Rep teams also play during July, the length of time depends on the success of the team as it advances through to Provincial Championships. Dedication to a rep team will prove beneficial to the player as a valuable learning experience, failure to fulfill the commitments by the player or parent is denying another player a position on the team and will result in a review of the player's rep privileges.
Tryouts
Rep team selection is determined through an open tryout process. Players are evaluated on skill level, effort, coachability, and overall development potential. Tryout dates, times, and locations will be communicated in advance. Attendance at all scheduled tryout sessions is strongly encouraged, as limited evaluations may impact team placement. Final roster decisions are made by the coaching staff in accordance with WMBA and Baseball Alberta guidelines.
