The handbook can be accessed by clicking HERE.

A WMBA jersey is provided in the first or second week of the season. A $30 non-refundable jersey deposit, collected during registration, goes toward the purchase of new jerseys every 3–5 years.
Practices / Games Format
Rep teams typically practice 2–3 times per week. Registration fees include participation in two tournaments and four exhibition games. Tournaments are organized by team managers and WMBA board members, and exact dates for all practices, tournaments, and exhibition games are to be determined. The season may also include provincial qualifications and provincials if the team advances. Additional costs, such as cash calls, may apply for provincial play and any extra tournaments or exhibition games.
Commitment
Participation on a rep team implies additional commitments on behalf of the player's and the parents. The major commitments are time, travel and financial which also includes fund raising initiatives. Rep teams typically utilize weekdays for practices (2 to 3 per week), exhibition games, etc. and weekends for games and tournaments. Some games are scheduled during the week, depending on the distance teams must travel. Rep teams also play during July, the length of time depends on the success of the team as it advances through to Provincial Championships. Dedication to a rep team will prove beneficial to the player as a valuable learning experience, failure to fulfill the commitments by the player or parent is denying another player a position on the team and will result in a review of the player's rep privileges.
Tryouts
Rep team selection is determined through an open tryout process. Players are evaluated on skill level, effort, coachability, and overall development potential. Tryout dates, times, and locations will be communicated in advance. Attendance at all scheduled tryout sessions is strongly encouraged, as limited evaluations may impact team placement. Final roster decisions are made by the coaching staff in accordance with WMBA and Softball Alberta guidelines.
Player Registration Fee
$340.00 — Includes individual and team photo package.
Additional cash calls will be required to cover umpire fees, provincial play, and miscellaneous team expenses throughout the season.

Coaches Required and Coaching Resources
A Head Coach and Assistant Coach are assigned to each softball team. Parents are also encouraged to assist the coaches as Parent Helpers. The Softball Director coordinates coaches' meetings prior to the season starting that allows coaches to meet each other, go through their equipment bag, review the Softball Package (schedule, rules, format, modifications, etc.) and ask questions. The WMBA provides all levels with coaching resources located on our website. Click Here.
** Coaching Courses are Mandatory through Softball Alberta. WMBA will reimburse costs associated with coaching courses for each coach.**
Coaching Requirements
Softball Alberta now requires that all affiliated MINOR softball coaches, assistant coaches and managers (U19 categories and lower) complete or have completed the online Respect in Sport (RiS) certification for “Activity Leaders” which can be found HERE or complete the Safe Sport through Coach.ca (the Locker) available in the e-learning session. It’s a free course with no expiry- takes about 90 minutes this can be accepted instead of Respect in Sport if Respect in Sport is expired or has not yet been taken.
The Respect in Sport Activity Leader Program educates youth leaders, coaches, managers and officials to recognize, understand and respond to issues of bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination (BAHD). Every minor coach entered in the RAMP registration platform must enter their certificate number into their RAMP profile account.
Coaches will need to take the online course and the certification will be valid for all sports. If a coach has taken RiS Activity Leader through another sport, it will be valid for softball. The certificate is valid for 5 years with Softball Alberta – upon expiration, coaches will have to take the course again.
Coaches who do not have a valid certificate will have until JUNE 1st to complete the RiS certification for “Activity Leaders”. Any coach who does not complete their RiS certification by the JUNE 1st deadline will be ineligible as a member of Softball Alberta and will be removed from the current season’s RAMP database until the course is completed.
Provincial Requirements
The “certified coach on record” for a team entering a Provincial Championship that does not lead to a Western or Canadian Championship are required to be at least Community Softball Trained. Trained status is achieved by completing the Foundations of Coaching Softball Part 1, the Community Softball clinic and the Make Ethical Decisions (MED) course.
The Community Softball context is typically for either youth participating in a recreational environment, or masters participants participating for recreation, fitness, and socialization reasons. The participants are in the Active for Life stage of long-term athlete development. The role of the coach is to encourage participants to continue their involvement in the sport.
For Softball Alberta Provincial Championships in categories that do not lead to a Western or Canadian Championship, at least one coach must be Community Softball Trained. Trained status is granted once a coach has completed the Foundations of Coaching Softball pre-requisite, attended all portions of the Community Softball clinic and completed their Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation.
The Community Softball clinic is offered completely in person over 1.5 days – coaches will attend all modules held at a facility equipped with classroom/boardroom space and gym space.
